Meet Michael Lucero, a native New Mexican bringing NYC-honed style back home. Michael trained and worked as a stylist in New York City, including time at Scott J Salon, and taught hair styling and cutting at Aveda. Known for his precision haircuts, he also has a passion for custom dimensional color. Now splitting his time between NYC and New Mexico, Michael takes clients in Albuquerque and Santa Fe. Off the clock, he’s renovating a home in New Mexico with his partner and can usually be found cooking, hiking, camping, or planning his next trip.

What do you love most about doing hair?
I love the empowerment someone feels after getting their hair done, the confidence they feel. It’s like putting on your armor on for the day when your hair is done. I love the relationships I have built and how I get to be a part of someone’s story and the connections it brings, and I love the trust that exists between a stylist and their client.
What's your go-to drink order before a big day in the salon?
Americano + Splash of Almond Milk
What's your favorite way to spend a day off?
A quiet slow easy morning with some meditation, training at the gym, laying on the beach, then making a nice dinner.
